Need suggestions to insulate and/or install weatherstripping on 10′ roll up garage door.?
I’m turning a shop into a camphouse and need to seal around and insulate a 10′W X 8′H steel roll up garage door. I need suggestions on what to do, what kits to get, and where to get them.
Buy rigid styrofoam panels from home depot in the building material department. They come almost to the required panel height your door needs. Glue the panels to the interior of the sectional door in each section making sure you don’t impair the sections hinge action. Use liquid nails for foamboard projects to adhere the styrofoam. I would then cover the entire interior door with a thick mil plastic visqueen also from home depot and found in the aisle with the blue roof tarps near paint. I would spray each panel’s styrofoam with 3M’s spray adhesive and then adhere the plastic onto the styrofoam. Now you have a thermal break(styrofoam) and a vapor barrier(plastic). On the bottom of the door check the rubber seal and if necessary buy an upgraded seal once again from home depot found down the aisle with the door weatherstripping(Hardware dept) or near the garage doors(millwork dept) it looks like the letter “U” with a letter”O” under the bottom of the U. secure it to the bottom of the door and then buy some garage door weather stripping from home depot in the same aisle as the weatherstipping and tack it to the outside perimeter of the door opening so the rubber strip rests flat against the door on the sides and top. Aside from replacing the door with a new pre-insulated door with steel cladding on the interior this is the next best approach.
