Universal Garage Door Opener Remote Control

Garage Door Remote Creates Opener More Handy
When installing an Automatic Garage Door Opener, you will find they come equipped with a garage door remote to allow the door to be operated from inside the vehicle, the house or any other location within range of the remote control. Unlike the remote that operates many appliances in the home such as your television set, The Garage door remote does not operate on infrared, which requires a direct line of sight for the signal from the remote to reach the controller.
Since the garage door remote does not need to see the opener to operate it can send the signal through walls and doors and, depending on the quality of the opener, over distances as far as 150 to 200-feet. This enables a person operating a vehicle to open the door from the end of their driveway so the door is open before their vehicle reaches the garage door. They can also use the garage door remote to close the door once inside, before exiting the vehicle, to remain protected from the elements and other dangers that may be present.
Every garage door remote operates on a frequency specific to the opener installed on their garage door and rarely will there be two on the same frequency within a community. While there are only a certain number of frequencies available for garage door openers, the odds of two openers operating on the same frequency in the same neighborhood are remote.
Tuning Frequency For A New Remote Control
Occasionally, it may be necessary to replace the garage door remote that came with the new opener. Contacting the factory that made the opener and providing the model and serial number will usually be enough to order a new one. However, since it can take a few days to have one shipped, many home improvements stores sell programmable remote controls that will probably work on most door openers.
These devices can be programmed quickly by following a few simple instructions to replace an old one that no longer functions. Additionally, there are times during garage door repair projects that the remote may no longer function with a new opener and by programming a new universal garage door remote can have the homeowner back in business in minutes.
For most homeowners losing their garage door remote is as serious as losing the remote for their television. Once a person installs an automatic garage door opener with a remote it is nearly impossible to live without one.

Where can I find a replacement remote control for a 1970’s era Sears garage door opener? (139.654020 model)?
We lost the car remote control to this great garage door opener and want to buy a replacement. The unit is, we believe, from the late 70’s and is a ” Sears garage door opener” model # 139.654020. the reciever is black with simulated wood trim and has a thick wire antenna on top of it.
I contacted a couple online remote sellers and was told I needed to use a universal rewire type kit that has the receiver plugged into an outlet. This isnt an option for us unfortunately because we have no outlets even remotely close to where our current reciever is.
After further research, it appears that these old Sears remotes were all pretty much the same but were renamed and renumbered by several sources over the years. Im hoping we can find one that will work with our system, although may not have the exact same model number.
Thank you in advance for any help finding a working remote. I opener works great and I really dont want to have to replace the whole system for a missing remote.
have you thought about putting in a junction box where the door opener is wired in,that should solve your problem as far as being able to install a new receiver, remember the door opener has to have power in order to work, and doing this will help
